Peace and Goodwill

So, it is Christmas Eve 2020.  I am tired of the pandemic and as much as I would like for Trump to still be the president for another four years, I think that ship has sailed.  The United States of America is in an uproar and wiser heads are not prevailing.  This year may be the first in my 45 years on this earth where I feel that we, as a country, are more divided in our ideologies than ever before and I am not sure that we can be united.  Now, you may be tempted to agree with me and blame it all on President Trump.  President Trump is not to blame for anything that has happened in the past four years.  What you are seeing now is a man holding the office of President of the United States that actually represented the majority view of our country and has been lambasted for four years for trying to do the right things for all people.  But Trump is not the focus of this post.  There is only one thing that could unite this country despite everyone's difference in ideologies.  You ready.....  A king!!!  Not just any king though, this King was born over 2000 years ago and his name is Jesus!  I know it won't happen because the bible says so, but I imagine this world would be a ton better off if people would shuck their pride and turn to Jesus and confess that they are sinners and repent of their sin.  There is a real enemy and it is satan.  He is the master of confusion and chaos and he never takes a day off and confusion and chaos are as big today as it has ever been.  I have heard it said several times from different preachers that if you don't believe satan is bothering you, it may be that you are playing on his team and that means you are in trouble.  In 2005, Casting Crowns released an album entitled "Lifesong".  On that album was a song named, "While you were Sleeping".  Below are the lyrics to that song.  The song talks about how the town of Bethlehem had no idea the Savior of the world was born, and towards the end of the song it asks the question,

America, what will we miss while we are sleeping?
Will Jesus come again
And leave us slumbering where we lay?
America, will we go down in history
As a nation with no room for its King?
Will we be sleepin'?
Will we be sleepin'?

It breaks my heart to know there are preachers and lay people alike, busting their tails to proclaim the good news to all people and some folks are so stiff necked and refuse to listen.  America, we are at a great precipice!  Some of you that will read this have had many people that love you, share the gospel of Jesus with you and you have refused to listen.  This may be your last chance!  But for those that are doing all you can to share the love of Christ with people,  take heart and know that you are being prayed for and that those you are sharing with are not rejecting you, they are rejecting Jesus.  One of my pastors once told me that for some people, going to Heaven sounds like hell to them (Shout out to Pastor Terry).  That is sad to me, but I believe it is true.  Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all Men?  It can happen!  But not till all men and women give their heart and souls to Jesus.  Praying for everyone and I hope you and your family  have a very Merry Christmas!!  Love on your spouse, your kids, and those in your circle of influence, there is no time to waste!

"While You Were Sleeping" by Casting Crowns
Oh, little town of Bethlehem
Looks like another silent night
Above your deep and dreamless sleep
A giant star lights up the sky
And while you're lying in the dark
There shines an everlasting light
For the King has left His throne
And is sleepin' in a manger tonight, tonight
Oh Bethlehem, what you have missed while you were sleepin'
For God became a man
And stepped into your world today
Oh Bethlehem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleepin'
While you were sleepin'
Oh, little town of Jerusalem
Looks like another silent night
The Father gave His only Son
The Way, the Truth, the Life had come
But there was no room for Him in the world He came to save
Jerusalem, what you have missed while you were sleepin'
The Savior of the world is dying on your cross today
Jerusalem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleepin'
While you were sleepin'
United States of America
Looks like another silent night
As we're sung to sleep by philosophies
That save the trees and kill the children
And while we're lying in the dark
There's a shout heard 'cross the eastern sky
For the Bridegroom has returned
And has carried His bride away in the night
America, what will we miss while we are sleeping?
Will Jesus come again
And leave us slumbering where we lay?
America, will we go down in history
As a nation with no room for its King?
Will we be sleepin'?
Will we be sleepin'?
United States of America
Looks like another silent night

One Second, WAIT!

One second.  It is nuts when you think about all the things that can happen in one second.  According to a google search and the site: bedtimemath.org  "With each second that ticks by, around the world 4 babies are born, 2 people die, Earth travels 18 1/2 miles through space, and the International Space Station travels 5 miles around us. In that same second, an unbelievable 20,000 cans of Coca-Cola are sold, along with 9 iPhones. 4 thousand stars are born across the universe." Seconds could mean the end of a relationship or it could mean a new life for someone.  When you are finished reading this, there will not be any final resolution, but what I hope to accomplish with this writing, is that you will think about your actions and your words.  I admit that I rank at the top of those people that fly off the handle or get my feelings hurt way too easily.  My shortfalls in the area of grace towards others are a simple matter of spiritual maturity and keeping my...

Beautiful Things

Wow, I can't believe how much time has passed since I last posted. So many things have happened. My kids are growing up, and sadly, we’ve lost some family members who have gone to be with Jesus. The first three months of this year have been filled to the brim, and then it happened... I heard a song that made me stop and reflect (you probably already know where this is going, haha!). I felt compelled to share it with the world. I first heard this song about a week ago while my family and I were in the van, and I loved it so much that I added it to my "favorites" playlist. I hadn’t listened to it once since then, until today. After a doctor’s appointment, I went back to work and decided to play it again. It's been on repeat since 9:20 this morning. The song is "Beautiful Things" by Benson Boone. Normally, I would paste the lyrics here, but this time, you'll have to look them up for yourself. The heart of the song is this guy pleading with God not to take t...

What Happened?

I can hardly believe it’s May since I last posted! I owe an apology to my two followers for leaving you hanging, haha! 😅 Things have been pretty normal in the Andrews household—just everyday life stuff. Like many families this time of year, we’re preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus. But, I’ll admit, "getting ready" for Christmas and "getting into the Christmas Spirit" has been a real struggle this year. It’s been tough because I’ve spent so much time focusing on trying to be successful and comparing myself to others. Matthew 6 keeps coming to mind as I write this, because I’ve been spending more time focusing on what’s wrong in my life and not nearly enough time being thankful for the blessings I do have. This pattern of focusing on myself didn’t happen overnight, though—it’s been a cycle repeating over and over for years. Here’s what I mean: I start with good intentions, pumping myself up and convincing myself that I can do anything, that I’m an incredible ...
